Of colours and heritage at SurajKund Mela

SurajKund Mela

Once a year, do keep aside a day for the Surajkund Mela, held from Feb 1-Feb 15th every year. With cultural advancement and worldwide recognition, the mela is a rendezvous of colors, heritage, cultures, hand art and state foods. The theme dominant this time was Goa in all its glory. The mela is held every year, at Surajkund Faridabad, Haryana and is a part of the state tourism initiative. A complete day is insufficient to roam in corner to corner but as much as the eye can soak in is good for the spirit and the love of handicraft. For a sucker of hand made fashion and accessories, it’s a paradise!Fashion BlogFashion Blog

Things to do at the Mela:

  • This is your picnic day. Flock together and spend a day with you friends and families. With winter sun on top, it’s fun and food all the way.
  • Shop fabrics, pottery, handmade accessories, jute bags, home and furnishings and spectacles of state art.
  • There are enough temptations to buy. So be ready to pick and carry your entire shopping or bring along a sturdy friend who can help you out. For heavy weight items, leave them at the shop and pick them on your way back.
  • Eat your heart from the variety of state food stalls. Hog on Rajasthani kachoris, Gujarati and Punjabi Thalis and sweets all the way.
  • Be properly clad. It may be warm and cozy inside the mela but once you are out, the cold wind swipes again.
  • These melas are a delight to see true state cultures. Do not haggle much on prices with the shop vendors. They have come from far and wide to bring the most beautiful stuff from their villages or zila. Instead focus on the quality and uniqueness of their products and pay them their due.
