Huawei Honor 4X review | Features packed with Affordability

Looking for an affordable phone that has all the features of an expensive phone? And it looks nice too? Look no further.

Huawei Honor 4X is the second addition to my family, the first one being Honor 6 Plus. Both the phones have appealing designs, multiple features and are packed with high resolution cameras.

I got my hands on Honor 4X and here is the first hand experience with the smartphone. Big HD display, huge battery backup, 2GB RAM, 4G support and a high resolution camera are the features that got me bowled over. But is the phone equipped enough to beat the rivals? Build of the Phone

The front of the phone has a 5.5 inch touch screen which is huge and makes reading and working on the phone easier. The phone has a front camera and the usual soft touch- Home, Back and Task keys at the bottom of the screen. These soft touch keys are not backlit, so finding their location in the dark becomes a bit problematic.

The edges of the phone are rounded. The phone is pretty big with approx 8.5mm thickness. This may be an issue with people who are used to sleek handsets. The phone has a bit of a weight too. But the huge display and ease makes up for the most of it.

The smartphone features a white back which is appealing. This white back has a rough texture for a better grip. I would still recommend getting a back case for protection against scratches and falling down of the phone. The rear camera and the LED flash are placed together at the upper left corner. The power key and the volume key is placed on the right edge, the charging/micro USB port at the bottom edge and the headset jack at the top edge. Huawei Honor 4X has two micro-sim card slots along with a micro SD card slot under the back cover. The battery is non-removable. The back has a minimalist Honor branding.

Display

The 5.5 inch HD screen display of Huawei Honor 4X has a pixel density of 276ppi. The touch sensitivity is very good and the phone is easy to understand and manoeuvre. The sunlight legibility of the smartphone is decent. The icons and swipes are easily registered. The display is bright and the colors come out alive.

Camera

Huawei Honor 4X has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The camera has an innovative “adaptive color optimisation” algorithm to create the best visual effects. The special camera features offer a more personalised experience. With settings for panorama, timer modes, HDR, the pictures come out very well. The camera supports 1080p video recording.

The front camera clicks nice selfies and the various editing options ensure a good selfie image.

Software & Performance

There are 6 themes in the phone, each with a different set of wallpapers, icons, font styles and lock screen styles. These pre-loaded themes can be customised. The phone comes with a notification manager that is helpful in managing notifications for each app. There is a Do Not Disturb mode that helps you take calls and messages from selected contacts only.

Huawei Honor 4X comes with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. The micro SD card slot supports cards upto 32 GB capacity. I haven’t experienced any lag while browsing or navigating through the phone menu. The phone supports 2G, 3G and 4 G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and microUSB 2.0. The loudspeaker has decent output for personal usage. The phone has a clear voice quality and signal reception.

The phone has a large 3000mAh battery that easily lasts for a day incase of heavy usage. Otherwise, the battery lasts for one and a half days easily.

Value for money?

Huawei Honor 4X is a good buy. The phone is available at an affordable price point and has all the features of a smartphone. The phone has a good HD display, a high-resolution camera, 2 GB RAM, Dual 4G and an overall satisfactory performance. The long lasting battery is just the icing on the cake.
