Being comfortable in your own skin and body positivity is something that cannot be attained overnight. You need to work on it and slowly you’ll start accepting yourself. For most part of my life I have been a plus size girl, and it is only in my late 20s that I understood that we are more than just our appearance.
Sharing how I built my confidence and accepted body positivity with gratitude. Follow these 6 amazing tips and find self love for yourself.
1.Work on your body, soul, and mind
Instead of working out to achieve a better figure, it’s better that you work to become a better version of yourself. As a plus size girl I know sometimes it gets disappointing when your efforts don’t show.
You don’t have to spend hours in the gym, instead do a form of exercise that you enjoy. Eat healthy, build up your metabolism, and most importantly meditate to make sure you’re at peace with yourself.
2. Dress as per your body type
This is one of the most important factors. You don’t need to be a fashion victim and follow trends blindly. Wear what suits your body type and it’ll give you an enhanced confidence. Make sure the fitting is just right and accentuates your best features.
3. Build a positive circle
I have been lucky to have friends and family who see me beyond just a body. You’re more than a size, and the faster you accept it, the better it will be. Talk to your friends and family if you’re feeling low and build your confidence.
If you think that you cannot handle the situation and it’s taking a toll on your mental health, it is recommended that you talk to an expert. Ensure you have people who encourage you for your achievements and overall personality.
P.S: Experts are at home, at work places and in friend circles. Just identify them and seek help. You don’t have to necessarily go to a shrink and waste your money. Look around and you’ll be able to find someone you can trust and open upto.
4. Practice positive self talk
Look at yourself in the mirror and appreciate yourself for all your efforts. I used to make a list of top 10 things I’m good at. This gave me happiness and I realized that beauty is more than just skin deep. Talk positively to yourself, say ‘You’re beautiful’.
Remember beauty is a state of mind. Don’t let negativity pull you down. Keep your spirits high and enjoy life, just the way you are.
5. Dress for yourself
Pamper yourself and look good for yourself. Buy that pair of heels if you love them, splurge on that dress and flaunt it with all your heart. When you feel good about yourself, it automatically shows on your face. And the best way to carry an outfit is with confidence. It’ll make or break the look.
I’ve always been conscious about my thunder thighs, but recently I made peace with them and now I style my outfits in such a way that the focus is not on my thighs. The journey of body positivity is long, and you need to be patient.
6. Switch to gratitude
You might not realize that how blessed you are. Having a body that’s fully functional is nothing less than a blessing. And instead of being thankful about it, you rant about your body issues. It takes time to accept your body and be happy with it.
Be grateful towards your body and you’ll see it’ll make a huge difference. Body positivity is something that can be inculcated and needs to be practiced. Your body can do miraculous things, and if that isn’t amazing, I don’t know what is?
