How to do facial at home

What can be better than an indulging and refreshing facial? Well, I think a facial at home. There are times when your skin needs that extra bit of pampering and affection, but you are in no mood to go all the way to the parlour. So what to do? A facial at home and you are sorted!

There are a lot of you who don’t know the right technique of doing a facial at home, and keep asking how to do a facial at home? So today I thought to help you. After all we all want to look our glamorous best always.

There are various facial kits available in the market. You can choose one according to your skin type or the desired result – diamond facial, fruit facial, de-tanning facial, skin whitening and lightening facial etc.

Follow these simple steps and become a pro at doing home facials.

Step 1 – Cleansing

Cleansing helps repair blemished skin and gives your skin a youthful appearance. The market is full of different types of cleansing milks and lotions. Choose one depending upon your skin type.

Splash water on your face and squeeze a little cleanser onto your palm. Apply all over the face and neck in circular motions. Massage for 10 minutes and wash off.

Step 2 – Exfoliate

Even a simple lemon and sugar mixture can be an effective scrub for your skin. Exfoliating your skin using a scrub would remove dead cells leaving your skin feeling fresh. In addition to that, it also helps unclog the skin pores and remove oil and dirt.

Scrubbing or exfoliating is an integral part of the facial. In fact, one of the most important steps! If you don’t remove the dead skin cells then how would new skin cells breathe?

Use your fingers and gently rub the scrub in circular motion. Concentrate on your nose (that’s where maximum blackheads are) and forehead. Massage for about 2 – 3 minutes and then rinse off with cool water. Cool water helps seal open pores.

Step 3 – Steam

The best way to take steam on your face is to dip a clean cloth into hot water. Wring the cloth and drain off the excess water. Put the cloth on your face. You can repeat it 2 – 3 times. It is a great stress buster and sheer bliss for your skin. For added effect you can light some scented candles and put on your favourite music as well.

Step 4 – Apply a pack

The next step of a facial is to apple a face pack or mask. You must choose a face pack depending upon your skin type. If you have oily skin, clay based face packs are preferable. And if you have dry skin you should opt for a cream based face pack. Neem, sandal, fruit, honey, multani mitti…there are endless options to choose from. If you have sensitive skin or are trying a new product, you must do a patch test before applying the pack.

Apply the mask/pack. Leave it for 15 – 20 minutes and then wash off.

Remember we had shared some easy and natural face packs in the previous posts. Make use of them and be ready to dazzle.

Step 5 – Moisturise

The last step is to hydrate and moisturise your skin. Use a lotion or cream of your choice and massage well over face and neck. Massaging in circular motions for a few minutes would help the skin absorb the ingredients of the cream and leave you totally rejuvenated and refreshed.

Try these easy steps for a Home facial and let us know your feedback. If you have any tip to add, we would love to know.

  1. Hi, This is almost the same way I do my facial at home. Just that instead of the steam part, I massage using a cream or a gel. But the way it is mentioned above, a towel steam is an easy way to clear pores and refresh the skin. Will try it the next time. Thanks

  2. Home facial made super easy. I’ll ask my daughter to do it for me. It’s so difficult to find time to go to a parlour. This surely is a great respite for me.

  3. It is always better to use natural ingredients for home facial.A paste of marigold flowers applied on face rejuvenates the skin and adds glow to it. Again, seasonal fruits can also be used for a brightening fruit facial. I also love using coffee powder and green tea for exfoliating skin.

  4. Cleanse, scrub, tone and moisturise- the essentials of a facial at home, most of us do the same at home. It is necessary that skin should not be allergic to any chemical products and thus it is better to use home made face packs for scrubbing. Gentle strokes on face and right blend of products can do wonders for face.
