Romance, creativity, colour and style flowed down the catwalk when Bollywood’s top Couturier, Manish Malhotra opened the Grand Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 season with a mesmerising collection called “A Summer Affair”.
Summer was in full bloom when the Hotel Grand Hyatt Ballroom beautifully turned into a mini forest. Tree trunks were curved elegantly along the ramp. Clumps of blossoms and beautiful creepers flowed down from the ceiling. A very thick arch of gorgeous foliage was the super entrance to the ramp as the ambience shouted pure romance all ready for “A Summer Affair”.
Fashion for the upcoming season as per Manish, top image stylist, had a very new style emphasis as a spectacular mélange of fabrics came together to bring a perfect confluence for 60 ensembles showcased on the bright runway.
Bollywood’s current hot actress Sonaakshi Sinha made a sizzling entry in a long floor kissing sheer black kurta with white embroidery to set the mood of the delicate ethereal collection.
Intricate Chantilly lace, sheer organza, sensuous cotton tulle, translucent georgette with a creative addition of white thread embroidery and delicare shimmer blended in perfect harmony for the fine garments that were perfect for sultry summer soirees.
While staying true to his favourite grey and navy blue, Manish turned more unconventional by finely adding shades of pink – moods of blush to pale pink – for the collection. The designer also allowed black, neutral beige and white to complete the colour spectrum.
It was a fine romantic line that played with layers to present a luxurious fashion statement. The concept of print-on-print, tonal hues and overlapping embellishments gave the ensembles a direction in the art of dressing.
For women’s wear Manish teamed boleros with striking kurtas, and summery skirts that kissed the floor had very practical pockets and comfortable slim pants were great additions. Adding visible zips to the beautiful pre- stitched saris and stunning cholis, Manish turned the 6-yard long wonder into statement pieces to delight the unconventional dressers.
The dress kurta with the attractive cinched waist was constant along with the white embroidery in different designs. Sheer tank tops appeared lively over kurtas while wide pleated palazzos looked sizzling under long covers in Chantilly lace. For detailing there were cute tiny collars that got on to kurtas and cholis.
For men’s wear, highlight prints were in a profusion of myriad colours, along with embroidery and fine layers for different jackets. Printed sherwanis were replaced by Bundies and bundgalas to finish the look.
Bringing a direction for men, Manish twisted the popular kurtas into shirt-kurtas perfect for lazy summer lounging and nicely teamed them with linen and cotton trousers instead of churidars.
The final line of ecru, yellow and pastel prints for the men’s and women’s wear was creatively brought forward by Manish. Long gowns, Sexy swing coat and pants, high neck women’s sherwanis, and printed three-quarter sleeve choli worn elegantly with a luxurious lehenga made an interesting end to the show.
For lovers of alluring fashion and romance, “A Summer Affair” by Manish Malhotra made an unforgettable grand opening for the most awaited Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014.
