Tanya SachdevAnita Dongre closed the season for Lakme Fashion Week summer Resort 2017 in style and elan on Sunday 5th February 9 Pm at the huge Bandra Fort amphitheatre, Mumbai. The ace designer presented her collection under the open winter sky set against the majestic Bandra Fort that spelled grandeur. Her collection ‘Alchemy’ enthralled with the star studded front row. The amphitheatre plushed greenery and the tinsel town dust. It was the first time the old fort hosted a show. This unique off-site venue exhibited ‘grand’ in the Grand Finale and the historic vibes matched perfectly with Anita’s clothes and her passion for nature.
The light scent of roses, the ocean breeze, the gentle hum of sea waves and the melodious chirp of birds set the mood for the show. The play of yellow lights from the trees glistened up the green set and the mellow music gave away to Alchemy’s first looks to emerge and set off cameras and silence the crowd.

Lakme’s beauty statement ‘Liquid Gold’ through Alchemy
The gorgeous Kareena Kapoor, the stunning pieces by Anita Dongre and the ‘Liquid Gold’ by Lakme: A Grand Finale.
Argan Oil or Liquid Gold was the inspiration for Anita Dongre’s Grand Finale for Lakme Fashion Week summer Resort 2017. Anita’s clothes represented raw organic richness and sustainability. Soft silhouettes and contemporary gold threadwork made the collection timeless.
The showstopper- Kareena Kapoor Khan
Time stopped when the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor Khan walked in the stunning finale ensemble- a beautiful gold flared floor length jacket in handwoven tissue from Chanderi. Kareena wore the jacket with a pristine white silk organza gown and custom made silk shoes with gotta patti detailing. Anita Dongre’s signature handcut gotta patti intricately worked on Kareena’s ensemble with motifs of prancing deer, jungle vines and blooming flowers. Swarovski crystals embellished it further. Makeup artist Donald Simrock highlighted Kareena’s angelic beauty.
Gold on the runway
Kora whites with hints of gold highlighted the runway. The palette transitioned into blush- peach, pastel pink, flesh, aqua and sage, and finally with glazed gold. Models displayed a minimal look and hair pulled into a relaxed style with a few loose strands. Nude makeup with Lakme’s new collection of argan oil infused lipsticks made an ethereal entry.
Fabric in Alchemy
Beautiful handwoven tissue and khadi came together and made a parody with silk organza, chiffon and tule. Zardosi, dori and tonal embroidered intricate motifs in delicacy adorned the ensembles. Anita’s quintessential gota patti embroidery took a twist with a medley of zardosi, cord work and sequins for a cutting edge look.
The silhouettes
Bias skirts, short jackets, duster coats, tabards, dresses and gowns paired with sheer and breezy flared crop tops, stunningly pleated elephant pants and blousons took by surprise and added character to the collection. Classic and minimal jewellery with kundan earrings and pearl drops kept the looks subtle. The men walked in kurtas, sherwanis, bandis and bandhgalas in natural, pastel and earthy tones.
The Bollywood bandwagon supported from the front row that included Anita’s friends- Lara Dutta, Diana Penty, Juhi Chawla, Shanaba Azmi, Shriya Saran, Kajal Aggarwal, Sona Mohapatra, Gul Panag, Pernia Qureshi, Pooja Hedge, Sangeeta Bijlani and Kiara Advani.
