Getting 8 hours of sleep is imperative not just for your body, but for your mind and soul as well. If you’re struggling with insomnia or sleeplessness, it could be stress, hormonal problems, or some mental health issue. It is best to follow easy home remedies and these easy tips to sleep better.
Here are 5 tips that’ll help you sleep better through the night.
- Stay away from screens
As tempting as it is to spend time on social media while lying in bed, the radiations emitted by screens from your laptop, tablets, or phones have a negative effect on your mind. And when you want to sleep, the blue light from screens is considered worse.
Aromatherapy is a greatly helpful way to soothe and relax yourself after a hard and tiring day at work. You can burn a scented candle, or apply essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus etc. on your pillow and bedsheet. Taking a hot bath with fragrant bath salts will also easy away tensions and help you sleep better.
3. Read something
Instead of watching something, experts say that if you read something before going to bed, it will help you sleep better. Pick up a light read and try to read it in dim light (not so dim that you harm your eyes).
4. Listen to chants
You can listen to chants or mantras, they will have a relaxing and calming effect on your mind. There are various apps that allow you to listen to various sound effects like – rainfall, woodfire crackling, nature sounds. They are so calming, and I say this with personal experience.
Also another way to sleep better is to listening to audiobooks. You can choose a story of your choice and set a timer, and it’ll transport you to dreamland.
5. Avoid caffeine intake
Do you crave tea or coffee during late evening or at night, and then are unable to sleep? The answer is simple – avoid caffeine intake and it’ll help you sleep better. Caffeine stays elevated in your blood for 6 -8 hours and consuming it up to six hours before sleeping will have a negative effect on your sleep cycle.
Switch to a cup of hot milk, soothing chamomile tea, or decaffeinated coffee.
Follow these tips and you’ll be able to relax and sleep well. If you’re unable to sleep for extended period of time, it can be due to extreme stress and we suggest you visit a doctor.
