Our hair faces so much each day, harsh climate to dirt and pollution to harmful chemicals. Add to those aftermaths of stress and erratic eating habits. It is due to these reasons that over a period of time the hair loses its shine and moisture.

Hair spa is a great way to rejuvenate and revitalise your hair. It helps in restoring the lost moisture of the hair, thus, giving it sheen and lustre. The basic step of hair spa is oiling of hair and scalp. This step is then followed by shampooing and deep conditioning. A hair spa treatment is for everyone, but those who have dull and damaged hair, suffer from hair problems like: dandruff, itchy and flaky scalp, hair fall etc. benefit the most. Ideally one can opt for a hair spa once in every 2 weeks.

People often associate hair spa with a salon and think it would be quite expensive. Although there are many professional hair salons where you can find various treatments and procedures, but you can easily do a hair spa at home. What would be better than a relaxing hair massage and that too in the comfort of your home!

Benefits of hair spa

In case you are wondering that how is hair spa different from a routine oil massage, it’s simple. The secret lies in the overall massage and deep conditioning that is done during hair spa.

  1. Steam

Once the massage is done, you would want the oil to penetrate to the roots for effective results. The best way for this is – Steam.

If you don’t have a hair steamer at home, you need not worry. Just take a towel and soak it in warm water. Squeeze out the excess water and wrap the towel onto your head in a manner that all the oiled hair is covered. Let it stay for 20 minutes before shampooing.

  1. Shampoo

Time to shampoo! Choose a shampoo depending upon your hair type; ideally a mild shampoo would be great. While shampooing make sure that you don’t use hot water. Hot water increases the chances of dry and flaky scalp. You can use lukewarm water instead.
