Summers are here and it is time when we all dread those pesky pimples and stubborn acne. The oil, pollution, chemicals, and harsh weather aggravate it and makes the acne situation worse. But don’t worry. Say goodbye to acne with our 7 ways to treat acne at home.
If you are constantly fighting with acne or have acne prone skin, then consider us to be saviors.
Here are 7 ways to treat acne at home.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Trust the magic elixir that Apple Cider Vinegar is! Its powerful anti-bacterial nature would help ban the germs which are the main cause of acne. In addition to this, the alkaline nature of apple cider vinegar balances the pH of your skin, thus, further preventing bacterial growth.
Wash your face with water and pat dry. Make a concoction of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. Dip a cotton ball to this solution and dab it on the affected areas. Leave for 20 minutes before washing it off.
PS – Apple cider vinegar tends to strip off the moisture from the skin making it dry. Apply a generous amount of moisturizer afterwards to make sure that the moisture is locked in your skin.
2. Cinnamon and Honey Pack
Both cinnamon and honey are known to work wonders for acne prone skin. Cinnamon is loaded with antimicrobial properties and prevents the growth of germs, while honey is greatly nourishing and is a natural antibiotic.
Mix 2 tbsp honey with 1 tsp cinnamon powder to form a thick paste. Apply the paste on your face, or you can use it for spot treatment. Allow it to dry for 15 minutes and then rinse it off.
3. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil works great for acne and blemishes. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties and is effective in clearing up acne scars.
You can use pure tea tree oil directly for spot treatment. You can also put a few drops of tea tree essential oil in your ubtan or face pack. Or you can get a tea tree oil face pack and scrub.

4. Banana Magic
The humble banana can be your best friend in your battle against acne. Mash a banana to form a squishy paste. Apply it all over your face and allow it to dry for 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.
The next time you eat a banana, don’t throw the peel. Gently rub it in circular motions all over your face. Mash 1 banana and add to it 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp lemon juice. Banana face packs work very well for both oily skin as well as dry skin.
5. Neem Leaves
Neem leaves are loaded with antibacterial properties. They are also good for your skin’s natural healing. There are so many neem face washes and face packs available in the market. But nothing like an effective DIY mask.
Make a fine paste of some neem leaves. Add 1 tbsp fuller’s earth (multani mitti) and 2 tbsp rosewater/ lemon juice to make a smooth paste. Apply all over your face. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes and wash off with cool water.
6. Green Tea Face Pack
Green tea is rich in antioxidants and its antimicrobial properties make it a powerful ingredient to be used for anti acne face packs.
Mix 1 tbsp each of green tea, baking soda, and honey to form a thick paste. Apply evenly on your face and neck. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes and then wash off.
Baking soda in the face pack would detoxify your skin, honey will moisturize it, and green tea would reduce acne.
7. Mint and Yogurt Face Pack
Mint is a great ingredient to de-clog your pores and cool your skin. Make a paste of few fresh mint leaves. Add to it 2 tbsp yogurt and 2 tbsp oatmeal. Blend it to form a thick paste. Apply it all over your face and neck. Leave it for 10 minutes and wash off with cool water.
Apart from these face packs, follow these tips to minimize the attack of acne.
- Wash your pillowcase at least twice a week.
- Don’t keep touching your face and acne.
- Talk to your dermatologist to know the real cause of acne.
- Use a different towel for your body and face.
- Be consistent with your skincare routine.
Hoping that these easy and effective ways put an end to your acne problem. But don’t forget to do a patch test before applying any of the face packs or treatment oils to your face. Clean your face with a toner before applying any of the face pack.
Have a healthy & glowing skin!

Hi Manchanda,
Mud mask is pretty effective as well. I do this twice a week. Thank you for sharing these effective ways to treat acne at home. Drinking lots of water and enough sleep are also effective ways to help minimize acne breakout.
Hi Jenny. Thanks for your input. I agree, drinking water and enough sleep help a great deal too. 🙂
